Night Watch

Night watch is an apt term for a hard season. It is a hard thing when we are called to take the night watch. In caregiving it can be quite literal, as long night hours are spent caring for the sick and dying. But such seasons can teach us many things if our eyes are open to learn,

The period of my life from 2006 - 2014 was spent caring for my dying Grandparents and writings from, and about, that time make up a large portion of the material here. The writing in this section, both old and new, address themes of caregiving and mortality. Not all of it relates to my experience caring for my grandparents, but the subsection As We Lived Before is an archived blog I kept during the period of 2006 - 2009 when I cared for my grandfather in his dementia. The blog ended with his death. The rest are things written at various times, some in the moment, some reflecting on the past.
